Interview of Sophie Lelarge
"A skilled trainer, who loves transmitting his know-how, will always realize a high level training."
August 27, 2002 Frederic Lasnier
After seven years of training experience, Sophie L. has been charged with managing the training offer of Pentalog High Tech. She shares with us some of the methods, programs and competences, which have been experienced.

Aleth D. : Before accepting this new responsibility, you have already realized trainings during several years. What areas and what tools have you already experienced ?
Sophie L. : As I work especially in communication, packaging, multimedia, computer graphic design, I train regularly webmasters, computer graphic designers from publishing or cosmetic companies. I also train people with office automation tools.
I master the main design softwares as Adobe (Illustrator, Photoshop, In Design, Acrobat…), Quark Xpress, multimedia publishers, as Flash, Dreamweaver, Front Page, Director, etc, as well as the office automation softwares of Microsoft and Lotus.
On the other hand, my colleagues are more involved in computer engineering (networks, data bases, development languages…).

Aleth D. : How did Pentalog High Tech develop its training offer ?
Sophie L. : Since 1997, our company is certified as a training establishment. Our offer is developed around tools which we use every day during our missions. So it has also a professional dimension, in function of the specialization of our clients.
Indeed, even if most of our training programs are standardized, we always try to customize them in order to better respond to the trainees' functional and practical reality. That is why, before every training course, we have allays studied the profile, the experience and the profession of our trainees.
Moreover, all members of the Pentalog High Tech's team must be prepared to explain their activities and the functioning of their tools. We are working on improving their pedagogy and eloquence, as well as the quality and aptness of the examples used in function of trainees' profile.

Aleth D. : How takes place the follow-up of Pentalog's trainers ?
Sophie L. : We use more than the satisfaction feedback forms filled up by trainees after the course, the training reports drafted by the trainer and the training balance established during the meetings which enclose the training plans.
Regularly, we ask our trainers to present new technical or functional points to their colleagues. These written and oral presentations allow to follow the progress of our trainers and to take care that their technical level is updated according to the reality.

Aleth D. : Has Pentalog High Tech training rooms in its branch offices ?
Sophie L. : We can organize trainings in Orleans, Bordeaux, Brasov (Romania). Training rooms are provided with a video - projector, paperboard, and whiteboard. We adapt them according to the trainees and workstations' number. In this way, participants' availability and diligence are increased, as they are outside their offices and beyond the direct constraints of their work.
But, trainings can also take place on the clients' sites according to their means and in agreement with our trainers.
Our international experience brings us to train people as well in French as in English. Moreover, our Romanian collaborators speak these two languages, besides Romanian.

Aleth D. :
So you train people in your Romanian offices to ?
Sophie L. : Exactly. Some of our clients ask us to draw specific training programs able to "oxygenate" their development teams. That is way we use the Romanian branch offices, which are located in Transylvania near an important ski resort. During one week, participants will follow a training on the main web development tools (Java, XML, HTML, etc.), they will also visit touristy sites as Bran castle, which inspired Bran STOCKER for his novel Dracula. They can also benefit from the offices' location for skiing.
Companies, which had requested this kind of service tried essentially to value their development teams. They were particularly attracted by the cost, almost identical to that of a session organized in France.
Transport costs between France and Romania are compensated by the law costs of rent, activities and infrastructures. The impact of this kind of training is positive because the working environment is more convenient to study and learn.

Aleth D. :
Have you already used Web supports ?
Sophie L. : Yes. We began to develop the e-training. For the moment, we have implemented distance learning on internet support for our own needs. It is about punctual training courses, on very precise subjects. These e-trainings allow us to share technical knowledge between our French and Romanian teams.
Via Internet, our itinerant collaborators can meet together in the same virtual space as those who are physically connected in one of our branch offices. In this way, transport or cost problems are effectively solved. This vector of communication, allows us to organize training courses in a virtual environment, after establishing a precise date.
The success of an e-training course is guaranteed if trainers are rigorous while setting up e-training sessions and if they are endowed with high level animation skills in order to maintain the trainees' attention and transmit them information.

Aleth D. :
It seems that training people brings you a lot of satisfaction ?

Sophie L. : It is true that I enjoy very much doing this job because my family works especially in education. A skilled trainer, who loves transmitting his(her) know-how, will always realize a high level training. So, the trainer must increase the level of his(her) know-how, in order to share out only the best and the most useful part of it with the trainees.
That's the price we are paying for our clients' satisfaction. And my own satisfaction depends on it, too.
